Pratt & Whitney's Mechanical Systems & Externals Engineering organization is looking for a Staff Technical Product Definition Practitioner to provide technical and operational drafting and design support to the engineering military programs. 

What You Will Do:

  • 3D modeling skills and graphical product definition; creation of 3D models to support design; Perform general design tasks, including support of CICR content, tolerance stack-ups, and input of engineering standard work with the guidance of Design and Production Definition Leads.
  • Apply geometric form control for manufacturing and inspection. 
  • Generate tolerance studies to ensure accurate fits. 
  • Self-check own work to ensure accuracy and adherence to Product Definition Standard Processes in the communication of Design Intent, which includes the ability to understand, apply, and interpret Geometric Form Control to ASME Y14.5M- standards; Create parametric 3D models and other definitions files to Design intent and Product Definition standard work using the UGS NX graphics software; Self-check model/tolerance files (using the UGS NX graphics software) meeting Product Definition standard work which includes the application of tolerancing techniques per part family Engineering Standard Work and showing evidence of developing manufacturability and inspection considerations.  
  • Utilize decision-making skills including priority decisions, participate on the Integrated Product Team, use AGILE, investigate, organize, and initiate tasks assigned; Guide and mentor product definition employees within the working team.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Associate degree (or other 2-year post-high school training) with 6 years of relevant experience in design or product definition.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Associate's Degree in a related field i.e. Drafting/Design Technology.
  • 3D Solid Modeling experience.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing or Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing professional certification, GDTP Y14.5.
  • General knowledge of Manufacturing Processes.
  • Familiar with bearing compartments and gear drive systems, externals and engine fuel, lube, and air system hardware would be beneficial.

Department/Segment Overview: Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles Engineering organization is responsible for the design, development and in-service support of power transmission systems, bearing compartment and rotor support design and analysis, oil and thermal management systems, engine externals packaging and architecture, as well as nacelles for commercial and military engine models.

Technical disciplines include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Product Definition, System Modeling, Mechanical Design analysis for bearings gears and seals, and fluid-thermal modeling of associated components and systems.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite.  This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 44,000 USD - 102,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
